Marianna Koromila on Korovini’s book ’55

001

Half a century after the edition of such milestone books as Costas Taktsis’ The Third Wedding and Maria Iordanidou’s Loxandra, Thomas Korovinis offers a colorful ‘biography’ of 20th century Constantinople / Istanbul. Focused on the Greek and other non-Muslim communities of the former imperial capital, he presents us with a lively, fascinating city, throbbing with life; nonetheless, the backbone of his narration is the September pogrom of 1955 – a horrible memory for the Greek minority impossible to forget.
